Originally the private home of an Italian duchess, Hotel Esencia blends traditional luxury with modern comforts. This boutique hotel sits at the transition between the Yucatán jungle and the untouched sands of Xpu-Ha beach, offering a unique retreat. It is the first and only independent hotel in Mexico to receive the Forbes Travel Guide Five Star accolade.

Hotel Esencia is located between Tulum and Playa del Carmen, offering a peaceful alternative to nearby mega-resorts. It is approximately 15.5 miles from Playa del Carmen Airport, with luxury car transfers or helicopter services available for guests. I had an incredible stay at this hotel! The rooms were like new, right down to the little details, even an original, tropical playlist on an iPod in the room. Each room had independent split-unit a/c's that blew strong and cold, down to 16C. My room was large, with its own plunge pool and an amazing music playlist that truly set the Hotel Vibe.
I can't say enough great things about this hotel! The location is simply fantastic, nestled in lush surroundings with peacocks, iguanas, and beautiful birds creating a private haven. The rooms are not only appointed with all modern amenities but are also beautiful and peaceful, making for a dreamy stay. The service from Moises, Luis, and the entire team is beyond welcoming and charming, truly focusing on ensuring a fantastic vacation for every guest. While the dining experience was a bit pricey and limited, the facilities are top-notch, making this a wonderful retreat between Playa del Carmen and Tulum.
